Connersville, IN. September XX, 2016—Michelle Fox, founder of Saved by Grace Boutique hosted The Care Project 2016 on August 8th to help local students return to school not only well-supplied, but feeling good about themselves. Each child received a backpack with school supplies, and also got a haircut and hygiene products so that they can begin the year with high self-esteem.
“65% of the students in Fayette County schools are from low income families, based on the number who qualify for the free or reduced lunch program,” said Fox. “We wanted to help make sure they got off to a good start for the school year, and thought providing them with backpacks and school supplies would help meet their classroom needs, but we wanted to create a community effort, and give even more. We felt like offering free haircuts and hygiene products would make it easier for the students to be ready for school, and to feel better about themselves as they start the new year.”
Hair stylists set up shop at the John Miller Community Center, at the same location the supplies were being offered, so families could avoid the transportation issues encountered when they have to go to multiple locations.
“We put out the call for volunteers and donations at the beginning of summer, and we were just thrilled with the response,” Fox said. “I feel very blessed to be able to contribute to my community this way, and really appreciate everyone who took part in the event.”
In addition to the haircuts, 765 backpacks containing school supplies were given out, along with 365 hygiene packs. To make the afternoon and evening even more special, food and games were enjoyed by the students and their families.
