Clovis, CA: Candy Cane Lane is once again the favorite street of the year as it brightens up the community with its dazzling display of Christmas lights. From Thanksgiving through New Year, the homes here and the surrounding neighborhood are lavishly decorated with giant Christmas characters, towering trees, and elaborate nativity scenes.
Viewers are welcome to walk or drive through the town and marvel the huge display of Christmas spirit.
“This is one of my favorite Christmas light experiences in the Clovis area,” says Jenna Layne Brown. “It beats Christmas Tree Lane because it's homier. We started a Christmas tradition two years ago to go here for lights and we'll continue,” she added.
It’s truly the most wonderful time of the year as bumper to bumper cars filled with carolers drive through the streets but one visitor, Rhawnie Gonzales says, “Stretch the legs and walk it if you can. You miss too much detail when you drive it.”
Another visitor, Lisa Rose Trombetta, had a better idea when they drove with a horse-drawn wagon. “Beautiful! I've never gone down it before and we were lucky enough to do it with a horse-drawn wagon! What a great time!" she said.
The Candy Cane Lane tradition dates back to 1951 when this newly built town was surrounded by walnut groves. One neighbor asked to meet everyone and they decided they would decorate their homes for Christmas, Despite the Digital Age, the tradition is still going strong and this place remains a favorite place to visit during Christmas time.
For most residents, decorating for the holiday has always been a hugely important holiday tradition for their families.
