Social Media Expert: It's Ridiculous for Police to Agree to Suspect's Demand for Facebook 'Likes'

May 24, 2019

Portland SEO's Augusto Beato insists that there should be a law regulating the police in abiding by a suspect's whimsical demand as a condition for surrendering, especially for something trivial similar to Facebook likes.

Beato was reacting to news that Jose Simms, 29, who is wanted for failure to appear in court was able to negotiate with the Torrington Police Department to boost Facebook likes to a mugshot post for up to 15,000 as a condition for his surrender.

Torrington Police Lt. Brett Johnson revealed that Simms “negotiated” with him through Facebook about his required number of likes.

The Torrington Police Department was eventually able to get over 22,000 “likes” within roughly 24 hours, more than satisfying Simms' crave for social media popularity.

Beato pointed out that many would find Torrington Police Department's behavior in falling for such a ploy as hilarious.

"It is Simms' duty to surrender unconditionally and face charges," avers Beato, who is the CEO of Portland SEO. "Now, Simms is enjoying a higher degree of popularity that he craved for while the Torrington Police Department is left empty-handed."

There are seven arrest warrants for Simms, who cops suspect is hiding in New York.
