Nonna Rosa Restaurant Brings Italian Taste In South Carolina

Nonna Rosa Restaurant, based in Okatie, South Carolina, is bringing authentic Italian cuisine to the locality.

The restaurant originated in a small town called Pozzuoli, located on the southern coast of Italy. In this town, like many others, recipes that are most loved by everyone are passed down through the generations, with each new generation adding their unique techniques and variations. This passing down of recipes is how Chef Peppe Gialone learned his craft from his grandmother, Nonna Rosa. Many of his best-loved memories of his grandmother are watching her create his favorite dishes in her small cucina, sharing good times, and her love of cooking.

Intending to share these experiences, Nonna Rosa Restaurant opened the restaurant at Okatie Center Shopping Plaza. The restaurant serves appetizers, salads, pasta, and other Italian favorites. Apart from the food, Nonna Rosa offers a family atmosphere, the way Nonna Rosa would have done years ago in Pozzuoli, Italy.

They have their version of the classic Italian dish called rigatoni sausage made of sausage and peppers in marinara sauce over rigatoni pasta. They also serve pappardelle Bolognese - another original Italian recipe for meat lovers. It is a slow-cooked sauce over pappardelle pasta.

As for the main entrée, they boast their pollo fiorentina ̶ sautéed chicken breast with spinach and roasted red pepper in their famous red sauce. Another popular dish on the menu is veal saltimbocca, which is fresh veal loin pounded thin, sauteed in a white-wine browned butter sauce, topped with prosciutto, spinach, and mozzarella. Likewise, Nonna Rosa Restaurant also offers special family dinner trays, which are good for six people.

Meanwhile, with the current global health emergency, the restaurant has imposed some guidelines on its operation. The restaurant now operates from 4 PM to 8:30 PM daily. Customers of the restaurant can meanwhile remain at ease since all their surfaces are fully sanitized. All tables are also socially distanced.
