Newton, Mass. - Due to improving economic conditions in the United States, including a six month up-tick in the production of goods and services across the nation, commercial shipping has also increased. Along with it comes renewed interest in shipping container options, like Gaylord boxes and the companies that distribute them.
Recently the U.S. Government reported that real gross domestic product rose 3.5 percent in the third quarter, a higher rate than expected "driven by gains across the board," according to The New York Times.
This follows a 4.6 percent increase in the second quarter, resulting in "the strongest six-month interval we've had in 10 years," explains Carl R. Tannenbaum, chief economist at the Northern Trust Company. Real GDP is the value of the production of goods and services.
Pair this with a strengthening U.S. dollar and the economic conditions in the country show great promise.
The economic environment of late has been a much-needed boost for the commercial shipping industry. To accommodate the increase in production, shipping companies have had to mobilize their ranks and even look to hire. The number of over-the-road truck drivers is once again on the rise after years of cutbacks by trucking companies, according to trade and container shipping news website joc.com.
Distributors of shipping boxes and materials are also benefiting from the nation's increased production, like Massachusetts-based ALA Recycling, one of the country's leading providers of new and used Gaylord shipping boxes. Gaylord containers are typically large corrugated boxes used to ship bulk goods and materials, sized to equal the length and width of a pallet.
"I have noticed more interest in our Gaylord shipping containers and palletts as the economy stabilizes and continues to improve," said Allen Liss, owner of ALA Recycling. "It is encouraging and hopefully a long term development."
ALA Recycling's Gaylord containers come in a variety of sizes, various wall thicknesses and have full or partial bottoms. The boxes are stackable, can be rectangular or octagonal, and hold weight capacities from 1,000 to more than 5,000 pounds. Plastic liners to prevent leakage or contamination are also available.
With an extensive inventory of used Gaylord boxes always available, ALA Recycling offers the rebounding commercial shipping industry a valuable money-saving option. As an added incentive, companies have the opportunity to take advantage of ALA Recycling's more than 20 years as a premier recycling processor and consultant by requesting a customized Gaylord recycling program designed to minimize packaging expenses and maximize recycling revenues. ALA Recycling buys and sells the boxes in trailer load or less than truckload (LTL) quantities. Its inventory of used boxes can be found on its website or by contacting the company directly. Quotes and custom orders are also available.
