The gallery hours are from 9 AM to 8 PM from Monday to Thursday and 9 AM to 3 PM on Fridays. Attendees are also invited to join faculty, staff, and students for an Artist Talk in the gallery from 12 PM to 12:45 PM on Oct. 10 to hear Gallery Director Anna Fritzel interview Beda about his recent artwork.

Beda describes Echoes of Seasons as “a harmonious blend of abstraction and figuration, a union where neither dominates the painting.” He goes on to say, “In this exploration of the human experience hidden under layers of metaphorical Freud cake, the paintings serve as windows into the complex seasons of migration of human nature.”

Bartosz says, “Incorporating the symbolic framework of the four seasons, I’ve chosen to illuminate these themes with thoughtfulness and evocation. Similar to the seasons’ perpetual transition, the lives of those who undertake arduous journeys in pursuit of new beginnings undergo their cyclical transformations. The rhythmic cadence of the seasons mirrors the perpetual ebb and flow inherent in the immigrant and migrant narrative.”

Born in Poland in 1984, Bartosz Beda embarked on his artistic journey by relocating to the UK in 2008 to pursue studies at the Manchester School of Art. After completing his MA in Fine Art in 2012, Beda gained recognition by being selected for the esteemed 2012 Catlin Art Guide as the UK’s most promising emerging artist.

He also was shortlisted for titles such as the Title Art Prize and the Door Prize and selected for The Saatchi New Sensations 2012 group exhibition in London. Beda’s achievements include winning the Towry Award for Best of the North of England in 2012, recognition as a finalist for the Williams Drawing Prize in the USA in 2014, and second place in the Viewpoints 2014 competition in New Jersey.

Bartosz’s pursuit of excellence continued with a scholarship to the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden in 2012/13 and a fellowship from Fondazione per l’Arte in Rome in 2016. His artistic footprint spans numerous countries, with solo exhibitions in Spain, Colombia, England, and across the USA and participation in group shows worldwide.

Today, Beda’s works are in public collections at Reading Public Museum, Brownsville Museum, Siena Art Institute, and Fondazione Per’l Arte, as well as in private collections throughout Europe, the United States, South Africa, and Asia. Before relocating to England, Beda also worked on animation in the film industry, including two movie productions, Ichthis by Marek Skrobecki (2005) and Peter and the Wolf by Suzieh Tempelton (2006), which received the Oscar Prize in 2007.

Beda’s artwork has been widely interviewed and referenced for The Independent, Studio International, Expose Art Magazine, Creative Times, Radcliffe Times, A-N Magazine, Masters at Axisweb, Arteon Art Magazine, Expose Magazine, Spokesman-Review, BuzzFeed, Daily News, and featured in The Guardian, The Telegraph and Money Week, NatWest, and Inlander. He was also mentioned on BBC Radio 4 in February 2013 as ‘one to watch’.

Bartosz invites visitors to take a deep dive into his artwork by saying, “These paintings, positioned as windows into our collective human nature, unveil the intricate and multifaceted migration seasons. Not confined to physical translocation, this exploration also encompasses the emotional, psychological, and spiritual transitions that shape our lives.”
