Once women reach the age of 40, approaching menopause and being past child-bearing age, they start to become increasingly interested in breast augmentation procedures. Dr. Jeffrey Schreiber, who is arguably the best known plastic surgeon Baltimore has to offer, has reported that many of the patients who make appointments at his Baltimore Plastic Surgery clinic, are indeed over 40.
According to Dr. Schreiber: "A lot of the patients I see who are over 40 tell me that they want to regain control of their own body. These women no longer want to have children and they simply want to eat a healthy diet and engage in plenty of exercise, but they simply can't reach what they hope for without opting for surgery. Many have had children and breastfed them, and this takes a toll, particularly on the stomach and on the breast. In fact, the majority of my patients will tell me that they feel their breasts are 'deflated'."
Women over the age of 40 who look for breast augmentation Baltimore procedures are often also interested in breast lifts. When women age, their breasts start to lose some of their volume, leading to some sagging. Dr. Schreiber adds: "We often hear that women want their breasts to become 'perky' again, as they were in the past." In fact, women often feel quite insecure because of the sagging of their breasts, and many feel that they feel older than their actual age.
Dr. Schreiber has also reported that a lot of women who come to see him indicate that they had considered a breast lift Baltimore procedure, or other type of breast procedure, for many years, but didn't want to have surgery until they had finished having children. There are, in actual fact, no safety risks in having a breast procedure when women still want to have children. Yet many choose to wait. One of the reasons for this is because nursing can become more difficult if a woman has breast implants.
Dr. Schreiber does have a warning for women over 40 in relation to mammograms. He says: "It is important to have your implants changed every 10 years, as that is their shelf life and there is a chance that they would rupture under the pressure of a mammogram."
