A worrisome situation was revealed in the wake of the Flint, MI water crisis, which showed that 33 cities in 17 different states used 'cheats' when testing water, thereby hiding dangerous levels of lead in drinking water. The Flint water crisis is an extreme example that demonstrates how cutting corners and saving costs can have devastating effects. The polluted river was not tested properly and environmental officials responded too slowly to the health emergency. "A class action lawsuit has recently been filed against Philadelphia, in which it is alleged that the testing procedures used by the water department are able to temporarily conceal high levels of lead," adds Buddy Carver. "The recent report has also revealed a number of highly unsafe water testing practices that are common across the nation. We always check plumbing for signs of lead presence, and we always follow the right procedures if we suspect the water is in any way contaminated.
