The South African artist, Stefan Smit is fast creating a name for himself with both local and international clients collecting his work.
Having completed commissions for a variety of private and corporate clients including Nike and Ray Ban among others and having participated in several group shows, Stefan is paying his dues with the hard work and perseverance that often pay off, and now seem to be.
After receiving sponsorship from the prestigious Daler Rowney and offered an opportunity to exhibit in Milan after the successful co-solo show in Cape Town all while getting ready for his first solo show, we feel Stefan Smit is definitely the artist to watch as his mark is made.
Following on from the early 2016 show, Imprint/Blueprint, that revolved around the concept of our fleeting time and how we choose to either make our mark on this world or follow various blueprints set out for us, Stefan seeks to further these and other similar themes in his latest solo show, Under Dream.
Drawing on elements of the subconscious, Stefan stitches together pieces of his dreams that he says “were chosen because of their commonly shared thread” and paints these evolving dreamscapes that reflect certain aspirations and fears that we can all to some extent relate to, all tied together by a lack of gravity that, depending on the viewer, can be seen in many a different light.
