Children’s therapy center, Comfort The Center For Autism, occupying an office space in Central Midway, had expanded to better suit the needs of their growing clientele.

Comfort the Center for Autism is an ABA-based therapy center for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). They are located in St. Paul in the Midway area.

Comfort is currently looking for Mental Health Practitioners to join their growing team. To be considered a Mental Health Practitioner, those interested must fall under one of the following: 6,000 hours working with children with a disability who are under age 18, a bachelor's degree in a psychology related field with 2,000 hours working with children with a disability under age 18, a master's degree in a psychology related field.

Comfort’s intervention approach is intended to provide intensive ABA based therapy for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Intensive early intervention is required for developing a child's readiness for school.

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is widely recognized as a safe and effective treatment for autism. It has been endorsed by a number of state and federal agencies, including the U.S. Surgeon General and the New York State Department of Health.

Over the last decade, there has been a particularly dramatic increase in the use of ABA to help persons with autism live happy and productive lives. In particular, ABA principles and techniques can foster basic skills such as looking, listening and imitating, as well as complex skills such as reading, conversing and understanding another person’s perspective.

“Our mission is to provide a flexible package of Mental Health Services for children who are in need of varying therapeutic and rehabilitative levels of intervention,” says clinical manager Michelle Voigt.

Michelle graduated from Winona State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. During college, Michelle began her work with children with Autism during volunteer and practicum experiences. This experience and love for the Autism population led her to the Minnesota Autism Center (MAC).

Voigt is certified in Autism and ABA through the University of Minnesota. As a behavior therapist at MAC, Voigt worked in homes, in the community, in schools and in MAC’s center-based program. She was promoted into a supervisor position and was able to work more closely with families during that time.

Michelle’s final role while at MAC was as Staffing and Intake Coordinator where she assisted getting families started with services, as well as balanced staffing for the entire company.
