September 27, 2016 - PRESSADVANTAGE -

Rockfish Season Opens October 4th Call Legacy Charters in Virgina Beach VA for Virginia Beach Fishing Charters

Based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Legacy Charters offers fishing charters to those looking to enjoy some time on the water, and a successful catch. The company has announced that the new fall fishing season is now open, and Captain Bill Jenkins says that it's time to get started.

"Fall 2016 is projected to be great for Rockfishing," says Captain Bill. He states that "Rockfish or Stripers as some call them, had a strong run this past spring on their way up to spawn."

Captain Bill points out that smaller fish have been caught in good numbers all year in Maryland waters, which is also a good indicator that the species is recovering. Also a good sign is the abundance of menhaden in the bay, which is the primary forage food for Rockfish.

"All of this, combined with the falling temperatures and the above average rainfall we've been having, is going to push these fish out of their spawning grounds and down the rivers into the Chesapeake Bay," says the Captain.

He goes on to say that this is where these fish will begin to school up and feed on the large schools of menhaden as they make their way down the bay and into the ocean for their winter migration, ensuring success for anyone on a Virginia Beach fishing adventure. Depending on the water temperatures this winter, many of these fish will stay in the bay and work their way back up to spawn after they have fattened up on the menhaden. But, the Captain says, before that happens there will be a great opportunity to experience the rush of winding in a big rockfish.

The company's limit will be two per person between 20 to 28 inches, however, one of those two may be over 28 inches. The season will run from October 4th to December 31st, and fishing will be done out of Reedville to maximize run time to the fish and get them as they move down the bay.

Captain Bill urges fisherman not to wait until the season is over. He says that those interested should get their groups together and contact Legacy Charters to book a fishing trip. The captain states, "Dates are filling up and you don't want to miss out on the action." Those who would like to learn more can visit the company on their official website.
