November 03, 2016 - PRESSADVANTAGE -

Staff of the National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited (NCB) have joined the nation in its donation drive to help relieve the plight of thousands of Haitians who have been affected by the recent passage of Hurricane Matthew.
The NCB staff, from several of its branch locations islandwide, contributed in cash and kind. The N.C.B. Foundation handed over a cheque to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), along with food, water and toiletries, amounting to over JMD$2 million. ODPEM is one of the approved agencies in Jamaica handling relief efforts for the hurricane-ravaged country.
Still recovering from the effects of a devastating earthquake in 2010, Haiti suffered major loss of life and damage to infrastructure in early October from the passage of Hurricane Matthew. The country was lashed by heavy winds and rain as the system, which reached category five at one point, churned through the Caribbean Sea. Media reports indicate that approximately 900 lives were lost and that there has been an outbreak of cholera due to lack of access to clean water.
Jamaica has reached out with cash, supplies and manpower in the weeks following the storm. The donation from NCB staff members to Haiti came amongst increased calls for aid to the worst-hit areas of the country and a willingness to help. Jamaicans are still being urged to assist where possible as recovery activities continue.
