GMG Game Developers, a team of online game developers has published a report detailing health and psychological benefits children gain by playing online games. The report states that children gamers acquire IT skills, motor as well as reduce stress through online gaming.

“Contrary to what most parents think, online gaming provides many health and psychological benefits to kids. Through interactions with several children who play on our website, we concluded that children gamers show less signs of stress than those who don’t. Through the years, we have also realized that children gamers tend to be sharp in class; but that is if they are well guided and motivated by adults,” Jon Steel, the group spokesperson and founder of gominecraftgames.com said.

The report also resonates with other studies stating the benefits gained from controlled gaming. According to one research done by an Australian university for instance, children who played controlled online games had better motor skills than those who didn’t. Another research by the University of Utah also found health benefits in online gaming to children. This study concluded that children with chronic illnesses, stress or depression improved drastically after playing games they loved.

“Online gaming is never bad as its critics say. It only requires a parental controlling so that the children play only interactive and positively impacting games. There are many games which help children to develop skills in life,” Mr. Steel added.

“Online gaming can be a learning and entertaining activity to kids; if you teach your children the right games, they could end up gaining a few IT skills, positive social habits and motivation in life,” Mr. Norman, co-author of the report and also founder of Go Minecraft Games team said. “We have a few developers in our team who gained their career interests while playing.”

The group founder, Roy Ozil, noted that most of such developers could easily have failed in life had gaming been such a bad activity. "I think children could grow up healthy, inspired and motivated to achieve whatever they want to achieve in life through controlled gaming," he said.

With this report, GMG Game Developers hopes to convince parents and the general public to encourage healthy gaming like Minecraft games in their homes.
