Candidate Mayme Robinson, Independent Democrat running for 3rd Ward City Council East Orange, New Jersey, has made a presentation at the community forum meeting on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the New Ephesus Baptist Church in East Orange. Addressing the voters in the community, she received a standing ovation amidst shouts of 'Run Mayme, run." Those present said that it was her commitment to being 'one with the people' that impressed them so much. Mayme Robinson herself says: "I am not just an independent candidate for the East Orange City Council seat. I am a voter, a neighbor, a friend, and a member of the community. Together with constituents, I have worked for years to protect our way of life, and I am very happy to see that East Orange is making a clear stand against strong-arm machine politics."
Indeed, Robinson says that she is currently leading in the polls and she is likely to win the Third Ward council seat on November 7, 2017. Robinson believes that this is an empowering movement that will benefit everybody in the East Orange geographical area. In fact, she equates this with giving people in the area the freedom they have so long been waiting for.
"Look around you," said Robinson during her speech. "They are coming with everything they've got. Be strong, be defiant, and stand up for those who fought and sacrificed to give us the right to vote our choice. On November 7, go to the polls and vote for me on line C-11."
Robinson is known, loved, and respected for her relentless drive to break the power in East Orange politics. Her speech embodied this desire, showing constituents that another world is possible. Mayme says: "We must elect people who will listen to us and choose people over politics and policies. The reason our officials don't talk or listen to us is because of Jersey politics. The voting power is yours."
