San Diego, CA - Earlier this month, the Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to settle a lawsuit brought up by an injured cyclist who was then awarded $6.5 million. The injured party crashed his bike in Sherman Oaks two years ago and suffered several broken bones after striking a pothole. It was the second such settlement this year, following an earlier settlement which the council awarded $4.5 million to the family of a man who was killed after falling from his bike when he hit uneven pavement.
