The theme from Star Wars continues to inspire the young music students in Portland over forty years since it first hit the airwaves.
Brian Eliason, the founder of the Eliason School of Music, revealed that when there's a lull in practice among young students, music teachers will let them play Star Wars and theme songs from other movies.
The Star Wars theme was written by John Williams for the legendary blockbuster film released in 1977.
Other movie theme favorites among Eliason School of Music students were those from Harry Potter, Frozen, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Playing movie themes is among the many methods that Eliason School of Music uses to motivate students to practice.
When children begin learning an instrument it is usually a wonderful and exciting time for everyone," said Eliason. "After the first lesson, children confidently charge forth into learning the skills of play while proud parents observe and give praise for their efforts."
The novelty of the instrument eventually fades, and at that point, practicing can begin to feel like a chore. At moments like this, resistance can begin to show up, and the battle over practice begins between parent and child.
To find a way to get students practicing again the school came up with a series of methods, which included playing Star Wars and other movie themes.
Another technique called the "Like List" involves asking students to write down 5 to 10 unique things that they like about their instrument or playing music on their instrument.
