August 28, 2018 - PRESSADVANTAGE -

Greg DeLine, a business leader and philanthropist in Columbia, Missouri, was featured on the Paul Pepper and Friends Radio Show on KBIA. As the Love INC Board President, he has joined forces with Love INC Mobilization Director Mike DeSantis, to encourage listeners to sign up for one of Love INC's biggest fundraisers of the year, the Over the Edge event where participants rappel down the iconic nine-story Tiger Hotel in downtown Columbia.

"I had a blast speaking with Paul Pepper about our upcoming Over the Edge event on KBIA," says Greg himself. "We even convinced him to participate. We encourage everybody to join in and to support Love INC on September 15th. Meanwhile, you can also donate to the cause directly."

Love INC's goal is to tap into the adventurous and giving spirit that Columbians are famous for. Time and again, community members have come together to try various things in order to support a good cause. This is what Greg hopes to tap into again, enabling participants to take part in a rappelling event while fundraising for the nonprofit organization.

One of the rappellers will be Gary Pinkel, who will support other 'edgers' in going Over the Edge, rappelling down the Tiger Hotel, which is the first skyscraper in Columbia. Edgers are encouraged to collect donations for their bravery, which will support Love INC itself. Greg has ensured that it is very easy to enlist as a participant. Furthermore, the money donated would be fully tax deductible. Those who do not want to rappel themselves can sponsor a participant instead, with donation amounts varying depending on the level of participation.

Greg DeLine explains: "We wanted to bring a different type of fundraising event to Columbia. This activity will be thrilling for so many people who want to try their hand (and feet) at rappelling in a safe, fun environment that brings us together to help fight poverty in our community."

The event will take place on September 15th at 23 South 8th Street, Columbia. To participate, people should first sign up to become an edger and set up a personal fundraising page. Those who are able to fundraise $1,000 or more will be able to take part in the once in a lifetime opportunity to rappel down the Tiger Hotel. All money raised will be in support of Love INC of Columbia.

The nonprofit's mission is to bring people out of poverty in the area. Greg explains further: "Consider that 24% of Columbians live in poverty, compared to 20% of Missourians. Income inequality is terrible, particularly in Boone County, where it is the third highest in the state. Meanwhile, 41% of students in public schools receive free or reduced costs lunches. We are there to support people out of poverty, giving them better chances in life."

Love INC works with anyone in poverty. However, 76% of their service users are female, 83% are unmarried, 61% are from an ethnic minority, and 60% are raising children. This demonstrates just how vital the nonprofit's work is, as it supports people across generations and fosters stronger relationships.

"We foster relationships by raising community awareness of the value of caring for the disadvantaged," points out Greg DeLine. "We also provide resources for churches to effectively and compassionately respond to people in need; offer specific opportunities for people to live out their faith; and connect like-minded people to create strategies to resolve the complex issues related to poverty. Furthermore, we provide financial assistance to those with whom we have established a relationship and have verified their needs. This is available to help with unexpected expenses in an otherwise sustainable situation and to transition struggling families into sustainable living."

The work that Love INC has done has been made possible thanks to the generosity and adventurous spirit of Columbians. The nonprofit has significantly raised awareness within the community of how important it is to care for the less fortunate. They work with various local churches to ensure that those in need are able to access help in an effective and compassionate manner. They also engage the community in encouraging them to care for their vulnerable neighbors. Indeed, by bringing people together, Love INC has been able to develop a variety of strategies that aim to resolve the complex issues relating to poverty, including providing life skills programs and trained coaches.

By taking part in the Over the Edge event, people will be able to support the important work that Love INC does for the community. Greg DeLine, as an entrepreneur and philanthropist, has tremendous experience in doing good for the community and he is excited to see that almost 20% of the target goal has already been raised.
