Child safety magnetic cabinet lock company, Concepts of Spring have recently started a new series of true stories aimed at alerting parents to the inherent dangers that are inevitably in their homes and which can cause tragic accidents to happen to their children. The one that follows, highlights the dangers of ‘Medication Poisoning’.
“Jack’s mum and dad were taking a well-earned break in the garden after working hard all morning. They settled down to their coffee and cakes, but Jack was bored and wandered off back into the house and began to run from room to room opening this drawer and that cupboard, looking for something interesting to play with or eat. Many of the cupboards and drawers contained a whole array of colourful bottles, fascinating objects and plastic containers.
After a short while, it dawned on Jack’s mum that she hadn’t seen him playing close by. She called to him, expecting an answer immediately. None came. She called again. No answer. Butterflies began to stir within the pit of her stomach as she realised that something may have happened. He normally always called back within seconds. She rushed through the house calling his name. She went through the kitchen, into the lounge, ran upstairs to his bedroom. He wasn’t there. Frantically she rushed into the other bedrooms calling his name, but it was only when she turned into her own room that she found him. He was lying on the floor as still as a stone. In his hand was a blister pack strip of tablets that he had taken from her bedside drawer.
Tragically Jack died in 2013 at the age of 4 as a result of medical poisoning.”
Concepts of Spring claim that according to an investigation carried out in recent times, poisoning is the 5th leading cause of unintentional injury in the WHO European region where 3000 children aged between 1 – 4 die each year from poisoning. In the USA, 67000 children have to be admitted to the emergency room annually due to medication poisoning. That equates to one child every 8 minutes; children under two are the most vulnerable. More than 90% of all poisonings happen within the home environment. Many of the common household products that we need and use every day can poison children, including cleaning supplies, pesticides, alcohol, cosmetics – and medicines.
The company's videos have some helpful tips on how to safeguard children from harmful substances using their dedicated Spring Safe and Sound magnetic safety locks.
