New Franklin, Ohio - October 25, 2018 - PRESSADVANTAGE -
New Franklin, Ohio-based Animal Control Specialists, LLC, a wildlife control service, is pleased to announce their slate of services available for the fall season. Company representative Rob Winters says that now with the weather cooling down into fall and winter, the activity from mice and other rodents will be peaking, as they will be trying to enter homes and attics for a place to stay warm. Details on their services can be found at https://animalcontrolohio.com/services/rodent-removal/.
"We urge homeowners to call us as soon as possible to make sure their homes don't get infested by rodents," Winters says. "Most houses are built with construction gaps that are pretty standard. But it's very easy for rodents to get into the house and start nests in your walls and attic, causing a lot of damage and even being a health hazard."
As a species, rodents share a number of the same characteristics, including large, constantly growing teeth that must be kept at a manageable size through chewing. The animals tend to have small eyes and round ears, and rats and mice tend to have longer tails to help them climb, while burrowing animals like gophers tend to have smaller tails.
Rodents are found on every continent on earth except for Antarctica. They live in a number of different environments, including forests, grasslands, deserts, jungles, and cities and suburbs. For the most part, rodents prefer to be in trees or attics away from the ground, and tend to live in large colonies. Winters says that homes are a particular favorite for rodents not just because of the warmth, but because there are a number of food sources they can take advantage of.
"Rats and mice love being in houses when the cold comes," Winters notes. "They eat pretty much anything they can get their hands on. Their constantly growing teeth cause them to constantly chew on your walls and cause damage all over the place. Even worse, they leave droppings around the house, which can cause a number of health problems, including rat bite fever, leptospirosis, salmonellosis, and Hantavirus."
Hantaviruses originate from rodents who live in houses in both suburban and rural areas. Humans can become infected by making contact with the saliva, urine, or feces of rodents. The disease's symptoms are flu-like in nature and include muscle pain, cough, headache, and fever. Medical experts say the infected person will develop a quick shortness of breath, and the second phase of the disease will see the lungs fill with fluid, further damaging the lungs and causing death.
Salmonellosis is caused by the salmonella bacteria. Most commonly, salmonella is found in contaminated eggs, milk, or meat, but can also be found in the feces of rodents or pets. The symptoms of salmonellosis are largely found in the lower intestine, including diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps.
"Homeowners can do a number of things around their homes to make sure they minimize damage caused by an infestation," Winters says. "Proper sanitation around areas that can be possible food sources is key to prevention. Properly repairing small cracks and holes around the home with rodent-proof materials will greatly reduce the ways rodents can get in. Of course, they can get into a hole as small as half an inch and cause problems. Give us a call and we can safely remove the critters and repair the damage for you."
With nearly 30 years of trapping experience and 20 years of handling wildlife nuisance situations, Winters and his team offer a number of different services for residents in the Akron, Ohio area. He made a custom modification for our chimney that was very reasonable. He put metal grates on our Gable vents, filled all weep holes and completely sealed all exterior gaps, and he put a secure screen on our chimney to keep out any critters. I would highly recommend this company."
