Leather Goods Maker “Proud” of Material Quality

Marietta, Ga. - Go Forth Goods has made a statement in the leather goods industry by refusing to use low-quality materials in their products. They have chosen to only use full-grain and top grain leather, as well as high-grade suede, in their offerings. Unlike with some other manufacturers, there are no products made with “genuine” leather or bonded leather.

Genuine leather is made from what’s left over after the layers of hide are split, and products made from this material often break quickly. Bonded leather, on the other hand, is made from the leftover scraps of leather, ground and glued together.

Go Forth Goods only uses full-grain and top-grain leather, as well at top-grade suede. Full-grain uses the entire thickness of the hide, and doesn’t buff out any imperfections. This gives the piece a rustic look, and provides the most durability.

Top-grain leather is similar to full grain, but the imperfections are removed. As such, it’s thinner and easier to use, and usually has a finish on it to make it more stain-resistant.

Suede is made from split leather, meaning the top-grain rawhide is removed and leaves the soft “drop split.” It’s a softer leather product, but less durable and more susceptible to stains.

By only using the top quality leather in their products, Go Forth Goods founder Nathan Martin says the company delivers duffel bags, wallets and other merchandise he’s “proud” to put his company’s name on.

“We never want to deliver a product that will rip, fall apart or otherwise become unusable,” Martin says. “That’s why we use the best quality leather available, as well as the best zippers and grommets, and use the most effective sewing methods to make sure our products are superior.”
