Bob Roberts of First Coast Roofing of Jacksonville Florida recently offered homeowners some tips for determining if your shingle roof has sustained hail or wind damage from the recent storms.
Mr. Roberts explained, "First tip is not to go climbing on the roof. Call a pro like us since we are familiar with walking on the roof. Second tip, From the ground, see if you have any shingles missing...these would be easy to spot. Third, check your downspouts discharge area for granules that may be washed into the gutter...they will be the same color as your roof shingles. Fourth tip is to have a local contractor examine the roof with your insurance claim adjustor."
As Mr. Roberts explained , hail damage on large scale as we have had, draws out-of-state contractors into the area. Do not be pressured into doing business with any high prssure sales people. Check their credentials online. Make certain the contractor is licensed by the state of Florida and that insurance is in place. Should you experience water intrusion into the house, have someone put a tarp over the area to prevent additional damages to the interior. Don't get in a hurry to have a new roof installed since the damage has all ready be done. Deal only with local contractors.
