London, KY based Recovery Works London is pleased to announce that their Executive Director recently published a book on addiction and the steps those afflicted may take towards recovery. Run as an arm of Pinnacle Treatment Centers, Recovery Works specializes in treating adults suffering from addiction, and their staff have subsequently gained a wealth of experience in the field helping patients take their lives back.
The author, Recovery Works London Executive Director Cathy Napier, notably imparts her personal insight on the horrors of addiction as well as her vast experience as a treatment provider in the book. Following an unfortunate horse riding accident as a young adult, the now-72 year old found herself enmeshed in the grip of substance abuse. Today, having been sober for four decades—and having worked with countless other individuals to get their lives back on track—she seeks to help her patients follow a thread of hope to their own, enduring sobriety.
Napier states that the book, which carries the tagline ‘From Bondage to Freedom,’ “has a huge family component. It provides tangible steps families can take to heal, including advice for those who have lost a loved one or may have a loved one stuck in the midst of addiction.” The author continues, “I struggled with addiction myself. I was able to get the necessary help and begin my own career helping others with similar experiences get into recovery and change their lives.” Readers may find Addiction: From Bondage to Freedom at retailers such as Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and Powell’s Books.
A Kentucky native, Napier chose to inject snippets of her personal life growing up with her family, as well as her lifelong friend and country music superstar Naomi Judd—who has also written her own book regarding her experiences with depression and overcoming an addiction to Klonopin. Napier states that, “Much of the problem with addiction is that it becomes difficult to contrast what we consider good and what we consider worse. At one of my lowest points, I was living out of my car. It took my desire to do better and no small dedication from my friends and family to finally put me on the path towards sobriety.” She hopes that sharing such insight into her life will help readers identify the parts of their own lives that they can use as touchstones to move forward.
She explains that one’s family can be a powerful source of encouragement and support, which is why her book dives into what the addict can do to help themselves as well as what their family and inner circle can do to support them. As Pinnacle Treatment Centers notes, “Napier’s decades of experience and her leadership role with Recovery Works of Pinnacle Treatment Centers has given her incredible insight to inform the content of both her first book and Addiction: From Bondage to Freedom. Napier’s books have been used to educate those who are struggling with addiction and mental health issues. The books provide positive steps that family members and people struggling with addiction can take on their road to recovery.”
The distinguished Executive Director also holds a Master’s degree in counseling, and attended Rutgers University for her postgraduate studies in addiction. Her long and conscientious career has included directorships of the chemical dependency program for a hospital in Dallas as well as the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) substance abuse programs in the state of New Mexico.
She currently presides at Recovery Work London, a facility whose expertise is complemented by clinically-proven results. As they state, “Our multidisciplinary team of caring professionals includes medical, psychiatric, and support staff. They treat the whole person, including your friends and family, so you can heal yourself and repair your relationships. Our inpatient program offers a medically-monitored, evidence-based therapeutic process and customized treatment plan.” This includes clinical evaluation, individualized treatment plans, individual, group and family therapy, medical and psychological services, nutritionist evaluation and dietary planning, education classes on substance use disorders, twelve-step meetings, life skills development, and recreational therapy.
