Abilene Professional Packing Store Managers Attend Retail Shippers Expo and Trade Show

Abilene, TX – This past month the owners of an Abilene professional packing store, Pack & Mail, attended the annual Retail Shippers Expo and Trade Show took place in Dallas, Texas August 21st -25th. Over 300 stores in the packing and shipping industry from across the United States were represented, with over 500 people in attendance. Guest speakers included Jim Cochrane, former USPS Chief Customer and Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, and Gina Schaefer who is the co-founder and CEO of 12 successful Ace Hardware stores in the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas. The RS Expo schedule featured breakout group sessions, software training, and an industry trade show with vendors and suppliers.

One of the highlighting topics from this year’s expo focused on package and mail delivery and how this will bring about changes to the industry in the near future. Cochrane referred to the “Amazonification” of delivery and how it has shortened the shipping timeline to better satisfy customers. “People start to get anxious when it’s not there after one day,” explained Cochrane.

Another hot topic from this year’s RS Expo involved a major announcement from the host of the event, the Retail Shipping Association (RSA). This past year, the RSA has been working on a national program to improve the last steps of the delivery process known as the “PackageHub Business Center”. The objective of the program is to bring different stores together under a single brand, while still maintaining their individuality, to allow customers to pick up packages in one central place. This program will simplify the delivery process as well as create a safe location for packages to be delivered. The goal of the program is to have 500 stores signed up, and after the expo, it is estimated 250 stores have already committed to the project.

As the industry’s largest expo, the goal of the RS Expo and Trade Show is to provide a fun and exciting venue for store owners and operators to learn and grow with other members of the industry. Gina Schaefer explained to attendees that it is best to constantly improve processes and look for ways to grow their business.
