Local Shipping Store in Punta Gorda Donates to the Peace River Wildlife Center

Punta Gorda, FL – A local shipping store in Punta Gorda, The Shipping Post, has donated $500 to the Peace River Wildlife Center (PRWC). The Center is a non-profit wildlife rehabilitation and education center that has been located in Punta Gorda Isles, Florida since 1985. They do not receive any funding from the federal government. Instead, they rely on donations, small grants, and sales from their gift shop.

Since their wildlife center began, it has treated over 50,000 small mammals and birds such as ospreys, owls, shorebirds, pelicans, turtles, and opossums. If any of these animals cannot be rehabilitated to survive in their native habitat but are otherwise healthy, they can become a permanent resident of the PRWC or a similar facility. Generally, the PRWC has over 100 permanent wildlife residents that are able to be viewed in habitats depicting their natural environment.

For customers that visited The Shipping Post this summer, they may have noticed the animal-themed gifts for sale. These items included stuffed animals, alligator and turtle shaped soaps, bird shaped salt and pepper shakers, animal themed books, and more. A large portion of the proceeds earned from the sale of these products were donated to the Peace River Wildlife Center. “I’d like to thank all of our friends and neighbors that purchased these items,” said Mark Drayton, owner of The Shipping Post. “The Peace River Wildlife Center does good work and of all of the causes that we help support, it is our staff’s favorite because and is one of the more popular causes with the local community.”
