Sudbury, ON based Deems Enterprises is launching a new effort to educate the communities they serve on the misleading statements that are sometimes made by certain Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) contractors. Given that Deems Enterprises seeks to conduct themselves with the utmost regard for professional and ethical service, the company is keen to help homeowners and businesses learn how to identify the most reliable providers.

“There are many, many HVAC companies who will vie for your business out there,” states Timothy Sheehan of Deems Enterprises. “They will all claim to have the most expertise but the average homeowner will not know the difference, and so will be entirely at the company’s mercy, should they decide to take advantage of their customer’s lack of familiarity. We’ve noticed that this is also true for some new business owners, especially those who have not previously had to make such decisions regarding HVAC installation for an office.” However, he assures the public that there are certain signs that anyone can watch out for that will indicate whether or not a company is reliable.

To this end, Deems Enterprises maintains a regularly updated Heating and Plumbing blog that the company hopes will help readers come to terms with their HVAC systems. “The more you know about your system, the more leverage you will have when discussing repairs or upgrades with your contractor,” Sheehan points out. “More importantly, you’ll also be able to make out whether their customer service is up to par—whether they’re working with your best interests in mind or not.”

For example, the company’s blog suggests that customers look for third party references when deciding whether or not to hire a new contractor. Sheehan clarifies, “It’s relatively easy to figure out a company’s worth once you experience the quality of their services yourself, but this can sometimes be too late, especially if you need them to help you select a brand new HVAC system. Ideally, you should question the contractor’s past customers and see what they thought.”

The blog notes that, “Most people will be open and honest about giving their opinion of HVAC contractors that have done work for them. If they are particularly pleased with the work done, you are going to hear glowing reports that just might lead you to hire a great contractor. Ask an HVAC company for prior customer testimonials, but be aware that they will typically provide you only with the names of people who were totally satisfied with their work.” Similarly, customers should also look up any online reviews and other testimonials that they can find on their own.

On the other hand Deems Enterprises also warns customers against believing everything that a contractor tells them. Sheehan elaborates, “Given the nature of the business, some companies will no doubt try to upsell you and offer an HVAC system that is unnecessarily expensive. Even if your budget can account for this, we urge you not to assume that a bigger or more expensive system is automatically the best one for you.” Despite HVAC systems being among the most vital (and therefore expensive) investments that can be made, he says, customers should not accept the largest price tags offered by contractors. This is because a system that is too big can also be too inefficient for the space it is regulating.

As the blog states, “If you purchase a heating unit that is too big for your home, the space you are trying to heat gets warm almost too quickly and that sends a wrong reading to the thermostat that signals the furnace to turn off. The heating system turns on and off on a regular basis until the home is properly heated. This process wastes gas and electricity and will eventually cause the unit to break down.”

An industry veteran in their own right, Deems Enterprises is eager to show local customers what the services of a reliable and professional HVAC provider can do for them. As such, the company invites new customers to visit their website or contact Timothy Sheehan to learn more, or schedule an appointment with the company for a consultation. Deems Enterprises can also be reached through their social media channels.
