Sheehan elaborates, “Given the nature of the business, some companies will no doubt try to upsell you and offer an HVAC system that is unnecessarily expensive. Even if your budget can account for this, we urge you not to assume that a bigger or more expensive system is automatically the best one for you.” Despite HVAC systems being among the most vital (and therefore expensive) investments that can be made, he says, customers should not accept the largest price tags offered by contractors. This is because a system that is too big can also be too inefficient for the space it is regulating.
As the blog states, “If you purchase a heating unit that is too big for your home, the space you are trying to heat gets warm almost too quickly and that sends a wrong reading to the thermostat that signals the furnace to turn off. The heating system turns on and off on a regular basis until the home is properly heated. This process wastes gas and electricity and will eventually cause the unit to break down.”
