Larry's Home Designs Reports That SIP Homes Are Severely Underutilized As An Energy Solution

Larry's Home Designs, a Stevens, Pennsylvania company, has reported that consumer awareness of SIP homes and their ongoing financial and energy efficiency value is strangely low. SIP or Structural Insulated Panels, are not a new concept, but they are a viable solution for helping to solve the world's energy cost problems, as well as reducing the carbon footprint of new homes.

Larry Stauffer of Larry's Home Designs recently stated that, "Although the technology for creating this building material has been around for half a century or so, it has not been incorporated as largely into the construction industry for housing as it could - and arguably should - be." Stauffer goes on to say that many consumers are simply uneducated about SIP homes. Many even think that this is a completely new concept, although the idea has been around since the mid 1930's.

Frank Lloyd Wright, in fact, used SIP construction in his designs as early as the 1940's. It was Alden B. Dow however, the son of the founder of Dow Chemical Corp. and one of Wright's students, who took the next step, creating the first foam core SIP panel back in 1952. During the 1960's, the first foam core SIP hit production.

Many homeowners simply do not know about SIP panel homes, nor are they aware of the significant effect that this type of construction can have on their overall energy costs. One of the main benefits is improved insulation, which helps to lower costs by eliminating heat and cold leaking into or out of a home.
