Glendale, CO, Nov. 7, 2019: Golden Peak Recovery, a leading addiction treatment center in Colorado today announced they are hosting an expert panel discussion on November 13 for the community, clinicians, local officials and anyone interested in addiction treatment in Colorado. The panel discussion on Wednesday at Golden Peak Recovery’s facility in Glendale, Colorado is titled “The importance of integrating care of co-occurring disorders in treatment.” The panel of industry experts will be on-hand after the discussion to answer questions and meet with attendees.
Featured speakers include a leading psychologist and author specializing in addiction, owners, and directors of area treatment centers and non-profits, as well as Golden Peak’s own clinical director, Bruce Santiago. “We are excited about this event and opening our treatment center to the community. We’re committed to building consensus around the importance of addiction treatment and mental health in Colorado,” said Santiago. He went on to say, “We’re facing an epidemic here in Colorado and we stand ready to help our neighbors and friends all over the state begin to speak out about their own personal experiences with addiction and mental health. Everyone has a story. We want to hear them. We want to stop the stigma around these issues.”
The event is made possible because of the partnership between Golden Peak Recovery’s founding company Niznik Behavioral Health and community leaders. “Our strong ties to the recovery community in Colorado inspire us every day to lead and serve others for the greater good of all Coloradans,” said Santiago. “Events like this are one way we can do that,” he said. The organizers believe the event will be made even more memorable if members of the community come and share their experiences, strength, and hope. Across Colorado and the United States, rates of opioid addiction and overdose are devastating communities, families, and individuals. Colorado recorded 543 opioid overdose deaths in 2018. Only a third of those who need treatment in Colorado actually get it. Emergency rooms, jails, and shelters are overwhelmed handling the vast majority of individual addiction-related and mental health crisis situations.
Despite 300 annual days of sun, a booming economy and an unparalleled reputation for physical fitness, Colorado’s residents rank among the most mentally ill people in the country. It’s estimated that about 20 percent of the state’s adult population — about 832,000 people — is living with some kind of mental health condition, according to a 2019 report from Mental Health America, and nearly 450,000 of them aren’t being treated for that illness.
The event is free and open to the public and all are welcome to participate.
