International College of Etiquette, based in Cremorne, New South Wales, Australia, has announced that Founder and Director Treska Roden has been featured on Studio 10, a Channel 10 TV show. In the show, Treska Roden explained to Joe Hildebrand and Richard Reid the dos and don’ts of table etiquette. This school in Sydney provides training in table manners, private coaching, business etiquette, teenage etiquette, social etiquette, and also has a school programme.
Treska Roden says, “While there may be some people who believe anything goes when it comes to table manners, most people agree that it is important to have a good knowledge of table manners. Today, so much business is conducted over a meal. Therefore it is important for anyone who takes clients to lunch or who is taken to lunch to know more than just the fundamentals of how to hold a knife and fork and which ones to use for which course. There are many social situations where a knowledge of good table manners is important – receptions, meeting the in-laws, taking that special someone on a date to name just a few.”
The school programme of the etiquette school includes various topics. Among these are the importance of etiquette, presentation skills, nonverbal communication, respect for oneself and others, how to apologise, gift giving and receiving, how to say “please” and “thank you,” how to say “no,” good grooming and hygiene, behaviour when attending a party, proper attire, table manners, mobile phone etiquette, social media etiquette, job interview skills, and bullying.
Meanwhile, the business etiquette training offered by the school has a duration of six hours. The topics include first impressions, presentation skills, introducing people and shaking hands, corporate dressing, networking for success, international etiquette, technology etiquette, how to be an outstanding communicator, personal etiquette in the office, dining etiquette, face to face meetings, and attending company social functions.
The private etiquette coaching course is for executives, human resources managers, business owners, sales professionals, and anyone who wants to climb the corporate ladder. The topics include first impressions, introducing people and shaking hands, technology etiquette, corporate dressing, networking for success, presentation skills, international etiquette, how to be an outstanding communicator, personal etiquette in the office, dining etiquette, face to face meetings, and hosting a party and going to a party.
The teenage etiquette workshop is for young adults, 11 to 17 years old, and its goal is to raise socially compassionate, emotionally balanced, and caring individuals with a solid value system. Topics include the importance of etiquette, rude behaviour, tact and discretion, tattoos and body piercings, sharing, nonverbal communication, how to have a good conversation, how to say “please” and “thank you,” how to apologise, how to say “no,” gift giving and receiving, social media etiquette, job interview skills, bullying, table manners, mobile phone etiquette, proper attire, good grooming and hygiene, and behaviour when attending a party.
The school also offers a range of dining etiquette courses, from their regular sessions on dining and high tea to private sessions that are customised for certain businesses and interest groups. Meals are included in all of these sessions and participants will get hands-on training and will also learn what good table manners can bring to their life.
And finally, the Finishing Touch course is for those who want to enhance their social skills both in business and in private. Topics include Western dining skills, morning tea and the cocktail hour; one’s personal style; the colours to wear for one’s skin tone; social networking; communication skills; deportment and poise; first impressions; being a perfect hostess; social skills; and make-up and hair styles.
Treska Roden established the International College of Etiquette in 2010 and since then has taught good manners and etiquette for various kinds of people, from students to head of banks.
