New Book Assists Teachers With Project-Based Learning Lessons

The book will guide teachers on how to implement PBL teaching method into their everyday lessons.

Founder of CraftED Curriculum, Dr. Jenny Pieratt has just released a new book on project-based learning. “Keep It Real With PBL,” is a practical guide for elementary teachers to effectively implement project-based learning in a simple, easy to use format. It addresses the realities teachers are facing today in schools trying to implement PBL. The book was developed from Dr. Pieratt’s own experience in the classroom and her experience as a Ph.D. in Education.

Project-based learning (PBL) is a method of teaching students how to learn through experience. It supports student engagement and achievement by developing critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. It allows for the development of essential skills necessary for college and careers.

The main characteristics of PBL methodology are that it presents real-world problems for students. They start to think about and share what they already know then build a solution for the issues. The student will often bring knowledge and skills from other academic areas. Using these skills and knowledge brings a deeper understanding and use of real-life challenges. In PBL, educators empower the students, and they work more independently. The teacher provides support only when needed. PBL fosters independence and develops the skills needed in today’s workplace.

Dr. Jenny Pieratt is an international expert in PBL implementation. She developed CraftED Curriculum, an online project-based learning company with courses and resources for teachers. Her new book accompanies educators through the planning process with step by step tips and resources to support project-based learning from beginning to end. “It is for all teachers both new or experienced in PBL,” says Pieratt, “ I believe every child deserves to be engaged in their schooling experience, and project-based learning is how to do this.”
