Kansas City residents are fortunate to have great choices when it comes to medical care. Included in that statement are some of the best Orthopedic Physicians that can be found anywhere. Doctors that are often mentioned among the most prominent Orthopedic specialists in the Kansas City area include Dr. Akin Cil, MD, Dr. Robert F. Greiner, II, D.O., and William O. Reed, JR., MD, PA.
For those who may not be familiar with the medical specialty of Orthopedics, it’s an area of focus that treats disorders that impact the body’s skeletal system and closely related support systems. In more Layman’s Terms, it’s a medical specialty that deals with bones and their nearby joints, muscles, and ligaments. Orthopedic Physicians are known to use both surgical and non-surgical means to try and treat musculoskeletal trauma. Common reasons that people seek the help of Orthopedic Physicians include sports-related injuries, torn tendons and ligaments, degenerative diseases, and congenital disorders.
Lakewood Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center out of Kansas City, MO is proud to call Dr. Akin Cil, MD one of their own. Dr. Cil brings over 21 years of experience to his job as an Orthopedic specialist. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of shoulder and elbow concerns and uses both surgical and non-surgical means to accomplish this. This includes sports injuries. Rotator cuff surgery and shoulder and elbow arthroscopic surgeries are among what he is best known for doing.
Dr. Cil immigrated to the USA as graduating from the most renowned medical school in his native Turkey. He then went on to complete prestigious Mayo and Harvard fellowships that centered on shoulders, elbows and sports medicine. Dr. Cil has the distinction of being one of only two doctors in Eastern Kansas and Western Missouri that are members of the Association of American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. He currently acts as the head of shoulder, elbow and sports medicine at the nearby UMKC medical school.
Dr. Robert F. Greiner, II, D.O. is best known for what is called Anterior Approach Hip Replacement. He is one of only a few physicians in the Kansas City area that do anterior approach hip replacements. For many years if someone wanted to get hip replacement surgery it was done using posterior entry into the hip area, this involved the cutting and reattachment of hip muscles. As its name implies, Anterior Approach Hip Replacement is done by entering the hip area through the side of the hip. This way hip muscles can simply be separated instead of cutting them. It’s a hip replacement procedure that many feel reduces healing time and discomfort.
Robert F. Greiner, II, D.O., is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon. He earned his medical degree from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at St. Mary's Medical Center and Orthopedic Surgeons, Inc. in Blue Springs, MO. Dr. Greiner is board-certified in Orthopedic Surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Greiner specializes in the treatment of musculoskeletal, bone, and joint issues, with a focus on sports injuries, joint replacement, arthritis management, and trauma and fracture management.
