Tuscaloosa, Ala.- Alabama Bail Bonds, a Tuscaloosa bail bond company is monitoring the recent development of a new Alabama legislation that will drastically reduce the number of inmates who qualify for bail. This legislation was proposed earlier this year in an effort to reduce the number of violent offenders who were allowed to be released from jail.
The law is named Aniah’s Law, after Alabama college student Aniah Blanchard was abducted and shot by an Alabama inmate who was released on bail.
Alabama Bail Bonds commented on the developments of the legislation in late March. The new developments in the reform legislation called for added freedom to judges across the state to use their discretion when it comes to letting inmates be eligible for bail.
Once the new bail bond reform bill is passed, the Tuscaloosa bail bond agents will surely notice the difference. Alabama Bail Bonds shared that the new bill will certainly increase the time before an inmate can be released from jail because a prosecutor will now have the right to challenge the inmates’ bail eligibility. A judge will also now be able to deny bail to offenders for lesser crimes than they would have needed to commit previously. For example, rape, kidnapping, assault, arson, robbery and other violent crimes would now be among the list of crimes that would allow a judge to deny bail.
According to Mike Cason, writer for AL.com, said, “The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the legislation. It’s a two-bill package, and one of the bills is a constitutional amendment that would require voter approval.” Since the bill has been approved in committee, it will soon move the entire Senate for approval. The House passed the legislation already a few weeks ago.
