The Illinois legislature passed a law allowing bars and restaurants to sell cocktails-to-go for take out or delivery. The initiative was spearheaded by Cocktails-For-Hope, a group that advocated for this change on behalf of the struggling Illinois hospitality industry. Sean O’Leary, The Irish Liquor Lawyer, who acts as a legal advisor to Cocktails-For-Hope stated, “This is a great day for the Illinois hospitality industry. The revenue from cocktails-to-go may be the difference between bars and restaurants surviving or going out of business.”
The legislation passed unanimously in the Illinois Senate and passed by a margin of 104-6 in the Illinois House. The law becomes effective once the Governor signs the legislation.

The law would require bars and restaurants to follow numerous safety and sanitation requirements. Bars and restaurants must properly age verify recipients of the product and if that is not possible, the product must be returned.
No third party delivery services are allowed to deliver cocktails.
