Nature's Hangout, a business in Cedar Crest, NM, has announced the release of a brand new bird feeder. For many people, having a bird feeder safe for birds is a primary concern. As such, the feeder has been redesigned to improve bird safety and the company is also actively taking steps to promote the fact that window mounted feeders are often safer than others.
"Our feeder has been specifically designed to decrease bird window collisions," says Mark Harden from Nature's Hangout. "A lot of people worry that window mounted feeders will cause more collisions but the opposite is actually true."
Because the feeder is mounted to a window, birds automatically decelerate as they approach it. Hence, if something were to go wrong, they would not collide with the window at a high speed. Similarly, if a bird were to fly through the window from the bird feeder, which is see-through, it would not gain enough velocity to injure or hurt itself. As such, while there is always a chance that a bird will hit the window, it will do so with less speed, which means that it likely be uninjured.
"There is actually a lot of information out there that explains why window mounted bird feeders are so safe," adds Mark Harden. "Essentially, it has been demonstrated that the closer a bird is to a window, the safer it is. The chance of the bird having a fatal collision, or even one in which it is injured, is greatly reduced."
Experts agree that what matters most is not so much the location of a feeder, but the opportunity for birds to land safely. If a good bird feeder, like the one provided by Nature's Hangout, has a safe landing platform, then mounting it to a window is a great way to make sure birds no longer accidentally fly into windows. Adding to this the fact that watching the birds is an enjoyable activity for grown ups and children alike, the window mounted bird feeder offers a perfect opportunity. Nature's Hangout has worked hard at making sure the bird feeder is safe to land on and will remain in place, keeping birds safe at all times.
