September 08, 2015 - PRESSADVANTAGE -
Freedom Golf Association (FGA) in Burr Ridge, Illinois, which promotes and holds adaptive golf clinics for people with special needs, has announced that they will be hosting a free golfing event. The event will include lunch, admission into the BMW Championship practice round, and possibly a few tour professionals who will drop by and offer tips and advice to disabled individuals who are interested in but have difficulties in playing golf.
The Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic is set for Wednesday, September 16, 2015, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Advanced registration is required and this can be completed at www.fgagolf.org. The organization urges veterans to sign up quickly as spots may fill up long before the event begins.
E.Q. Sylvester, founder of the Freedom Golf Association, released a statement about the upcoming event. He said, "Due to limitations, we can only accommodate 24 veterans. We hope that many will come out and bring their family. Immediate family members of veterans are more than welcome to attend as well."
The check-in for the event will begin at 10:30 AM and lunch is scheduled for 1:00 PM. Those who would like more information can contact Andy Mears at 630-455-6018 at Extension 3.
Freedom Golf Association was founded by Sylvester in 2012. Sylvester became a triple amputee in 2011. After leaving a rehabilitation facility in Chicago, he wanted to play golf, and enlisted the assistance of his long time friend and Cog Hill owner, Frank Jemsek. Incorporated in 2012, FGA is now a nonprofit organization, and assists disabled individuals by promoting and holding instructional golf clinics and events, including those for children with special needs.
The organization conducts training workshops designed to increase the number of certified golf professionals who are qualified to teach special needs individuals, and provides direction and collaboration with nationally accredited organizations to expand current golf rehabilitation programs.
Sylvester urges interested parties to "contact us or visit our website to learn more about this and our other upcoming events."
Veterans and their family members can visit website to get more details or to sign up for newsletters that will highlight upcoming golf clinics and programs.
