Sikh Or Hindu Wedding? Discerning Photographers Know

London, UK, OCT 3, 2015 – Not all Asian wedding customs are the same. Just because a photographer drops the word 'caste' into a wedding photography proposal doesn't mean they know to what they are referring and that could mean the difference in what they photograph as part of the package. In keeping with their mission to educate photographers, Pixcellence (www.pixcellence.co.uk) has just published a new blog post entitled 'Asian Wedding Photography Discerns Between Sikh and Hindu Ceremonies'.

“With the population of these three religions being almost equal,” states Clwyd Probert, one half of the Pixcellence photography team, “it is quite easy for the uninitiated to mistake one for the other. In many cases, addressing the wrong faith can be deemed highly disrespectful. For instance, Sikh and Hindu marriages are exclusive only to couples within the same religion. The difference is that Hindu couples must belong to the same caste, whereas Sikh couples don’t need to.”

The article discusses among other items how 'Sikhism may have retained some Hindu and Islamic teachings, it has its own stamp on several practices, including the wedding ceremony.'

“Anand Karaj is the term for a Sikh wedding while Vivah Sanskar is the term for sacraments done at a Hindu wedding,” stated Probert. “And while a Dowry is prohibited in Sikhism, it is a significant factor in Hinduism.”

The article continues to point out that with the many other differences between Sikh and Hindu weddings, one of the important things guests and crew should be familiar with are the terms used within the ceremonies. Reputable Asian wedding photography services, such as Pixcellence Photography, take the time to research and learn these terms in order to respond to customs accordingly.

Pixcellence offers coaching courses to help photographers of all levels improve their photographic talents teaching photographic techniques and educating the public about cross-cultural wedding customs.
