Bend OR Bakery Announces Culinary Arts Scholarship

The Sparrow Bakery in Bend, Oregon, has announced that they are now offering a $500 scholarship to Oregon students who plan to pursue an education in culinary arts. The bakery is now accepting applications for a scholarship that will be granted to a student in the fall of 2016.

Jason Gshwandtner, spokesperson for the bakery, states, "We wanted to show our gratitude for our community, which has led us to offer this restaurant scholarship. The scholarship will be available to any Oregon high school graduate who is planning to pursue a culinary degree."

The deadline for submitting applications is July 1, 2016. The bakery announced that a winner will be chosen and announced by August 1, 2016. To be eligible, students must be a citizen of the United States or authorized to work in the country. They must also be accepted to and planning to attend the first year of culinary school in the fall of 2016. The winner of the scholarship will receive a check in the amount of $500 to be used toward the payment of tuition or other expenses related to culinary school.

"We are excited to see the essays and official applications that are beginning to come in," states Jason Gshwandtner. "If anyone has any questions, we invite them to stop by our new location."

The bakery states that in order to be considered, applicants must submit the completed application form, along with a typed essay with one to three pages, an official copy of their high school transcripts, an acceptance letter from an accredited culinary school located in the United States, and proof of legal residency before July 1, 2016.
