A new study released in the April 2015 journal by the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology suggests a link between testosterone (and other androgens), atherosclerosis and obesity in females.

When researchers compared female mice (one with and one without an androgen receptor), it was found that the female mice without the androgen receptor became obese through the accumulation of high levels of fat in the blood and also had elevated levels of atherosclerosis. When scientists gave the female mice androgens, the body fat lowered, as did the amount of atherosclerosis.
