Catena Members Collaborate With Brunel University

A small team of Catena members recently attended the Industrial Reviews Evening at Brunel University. Brunel’s close links with industry are one of the main ways that Brunel design students stand out in a highly competitive job market. It is no coincidence that over 80% of their undergraduate students do a year long placement in industry, and, based on government statistics, the same proportion have graduate level jobs within 6 months of completing their courses.

Claire Bicknell, founder of the Catena Network said “It’s a great honour to be invited to this event. Our members are looking for ways to grow their businesses and working with Universities such as Brunel is interesting. We hope that a number of our members will be inspired to provide ongoing mentoring and support to the students they meet. At the same time the Universities can provide practical support to our members and have connections that may be valuable to our members”

There were nearly 50 highly motivated students presenting their projects on the night, and whilst in their early stages, it is clear that their time spent at Brunel is inspirational.

Made in Brunel has now become a brand and, is essentially a final year student led initiative. Throughout their final year they hold a number of events in collaboration with industry allowing those involved a chance to work on live briefs with real outcomes.

Catena member Tim Glynn of Adodo Consultancy Services commented, ”Even though we are based in Nottingham our Community Initiative is looking for inspiration all around the United Kingdom. The evening suggests to me that British creativity is alive and well.”
