Arizona City, AZ - Clients who have undergone addiction treatment at The River Source found their risk of substance use declining as their exposure to preventive therapy increased, according to a treatment-outcome assessment released by the Arizona-based program.
The respective factors fell and rose sharply, as shown in The River Source’s Brief Addiction Monitor (BAM) assessment, a multidimensional measurement tool for patients in treatment for substance use disorder. The assessment measures drug and alcohol use, risk factors for substance use, and protective factors that support sobriety. It can be used to inform treatment planning, progress monitoring, and group or individual therapies for SUD.
The River Source is a fully accredited drug and alcohol rehab program that treats clients at all levels of care, from initial detox through residential, outpatient, and alumni stages. Clients are assessed according to the BAM after each level of care.
The assessment shows the risk of substance use falling steadily as treatment continues through the continuum, dropping to only about one-quarter of the risk at the time of admission. At the same time, the rate of protection from use almost doubles by the end of the same period.
The BAM calculates risk and protection by looking at several dimensions. These include the client’s recent pattern of substance use, whether they are experiencing cravings, their confidence and satisfaction with recovery, and their physical and mental health. It also examines their financial security, spirituality, and whether they have emotional and practical support from networks of family and friends.
Not all treatment centers track or report this data. The River Source does so as a member of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP) and its Foundation for Recovery Science and Education (FoRSE), which takes a data-driven approach to addiction treatment and seeks “to improve addiction treatment through science, technology, and education.”
The River Source, too, treats addiction from a clinically driven perspective, using evidence-based therapies with proven results in mind. Its Reclaim Your Life program seeks to help clients find long-term, lifetime recovery with strategies and tools they can call on long after treatment is over. Its programs are always delivered with honesty, integrity, and kindness, focusing on results based on genuinely effective care.
The key is The River Source’s holistic approach which treats the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. It is a highly individualized program but follows a standard path. It begins with detox, an introductory phase that prepares the body for therapy by ridding it of the toxins accumulated over months or years. Clients undergoing detox are always supervised by qualified medical staff, who may administer nutritional IV therapy or medication as needed to manage withdrawal symptoms.
After detox, clients move to residential treatment programs, which include group therapy, individual counseling, family therapy, and treatment for co-occurring substance abuse and emotional disorders. Programs include unique tracks for pregnant women, Native Americans, and anyone whose addiction may have been caused or influenced by severe trauma in their past.
Clients experience treatment in a setting that is comfortable and pleasant. Facilities include fitness equipment, games, and recreational activities.
Better than plush surroundings, The River Source offers a unique Recovery Guarantee. If someone relapses within a year of graduating from the full continuum of care despite following their treatment plan advice, they may return for treatment at no charge.
