Bakersfield, California -

Li & Liao Optometry has announced their commitment to helping patients get through the allergy season with quality eye care and dry eye disease treatment. As members of the communities they serve, the team at Li & Liao Optometry personally understands how Bakersfield’s changing weather impacts eye health. In turn, the practice has ramped up its efforts to offer supportive services and solutions for allergies and dry eye disease.

Dry eye disease is a common condition that’s caused when the eyes produce either a poor quality or quantity of tears. Its uncomfortable symptoms, which include blurry vision and gritty, red, stinging, watery, or painful eyes, often interfere with daily life. While dry eye has varying causes, some of the main ones include eyelid inflammation (blepharitis), clogged meibomian glands, and allergies.

“We’re all about helping those in our care see clearly all year round,” said Dr. Dawson Li, co-owner of Li & Liao Optometry. “We understand how different allergens can affect the eyes, and helping our patients during California’s dry eye and allergy-ridden months is one of our top priorities. Our treatments go far beyond just sending you to the drug store — we personalize your care with the latest trusted options.”

Since dry eye disease and allergies are closely related, the eye doctors at Li & Liao Optometry use advanced technology, like the OCULUS Keratograph 5M, to analyze patients’ tear film and lipid layer to find the root cause of their dry eye. Dry eye disease can also play a big part in aggravating allergy symptoms, as the eyes are unable to flush out allergens via healthy tears, making irritation and inflammation worse. In addition to identifying if dry eye disease is a factor in a patient’s allergy discomfort, the practice’s optometrists will create a custom treatment plan for the condition.

“Everyone’s experience with allergies and dry eye is different, so our solutions and diagnostic tech need to reflect that when they come in,” said co-owner Dr. Yuh-Jen Liao. ‘If we confirm that allergies are the culprit of their symptoms, we’ll start them on cold compresses and specialty drops, like Pataday® allergy relief eye drops, or in extreme cases, a steroid eye drop. It’s all about improving their quality of life.”

Li & Liao Optometry is located at 9820 Brimhall Rd, Bakersfield, CA 93312. Their three offices are currently open and taking appointments for new and existing patients.
