Gulfcoast Eye Care Welcomes Oculofacial Surgeon Dr. Chelsey Knapper

St. Petersburg, FL, 11/14/2023 — Gulfcoast Eye Care has announced that they have hired Dr. Chelsey Knapper, who will be joining the team at their St. Petersburg office, located at 1515 9th Ave N, St. Petersburg, FL 33705. Dr. Knapper is a highly skilled oculofacial plastic surgeon who brings an enormous wealth of experience to Gulfcoast Eye Care. In addition to her expertise and experience, Dr. Knapper’s compassion fits well with the practice’s heavy emphasis on personalized, patient-oriented care.

Dr. Knapper began her extensive academic background at Calvin College, where she earned a B.S. in Biology and minors in Biochemistry and Dance. She then completed her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine. After graduation, she completed her internship and residency in Ophthalmology at the Ascension Hospital System in Detroit, Michigan, followed by a fellowship in Oculoplastic Surgery at Michigan Neuro-Ophthalmology and Oculoplastics.

Through her training, Dr. Knapper rotated at some of the nation’s most prestigious medical institutions, including the Kresge Eye Institute, Columbia University, and the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. These diverse medical experiences have afforded Dr. Knapper a thorough skillset. Through her surgeries, she strives to build patients’ confidence with natural-looking results.

“My immediate impression of GEC was the people devoted to patient-centered care. The entire team, including the doctors and staff, shows sincere compassion for each patient in every appointment,” said Dr. Knapper. “For someone like me who enjoys philanthropic activities and entered the medical field to help people, that empathy is what drew me to Gulfcoast Eye Care.”

Dr. Knapper has a strong history of leveraging her expansive professional skills to help those in need. She has provided volunteer ophthalmology and eye care services to the underserved both stateside, in Detroit, MI, and internationally, in Cusco, Peru. Additionally, she has traveled on mission teams to Mexico and Mozambique. The compassion she routinely volunteers to the community reflects the empathy she exhibits through her professional care.

“The biggest winners are our patients,” said Dr. Knapper. “As our practice continues to grow, it’s important that we maintain the same level of care and accessibility that brought us to where we are now. I can’t wait to get started and help further that mission.”
