Dalton GA – Providence Ministries Inc and CEO, Roy Johnson are pleased to announce that it has scheduled its annual Christmas Day Toy Give Away. Each year, the Christian rescue mission distributes over 6000 toys to 1500 children. The event will be held on December 25 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Volunteers are needed to hand out gifts, serve as ushers, and serve turkey dinner to the participants and to volunteers.
According to Roy Johnson, CEO of Providence Ministries, “Holidays can be an extremely lonely time for people who are disconnected from family, who don't have family or who are just down on their luck. We try to make it a happy time for them.”
Christmas can be a less than joyous time for many children in the United States. Children who do not receive any gifts at Christmas time are, unfortunately, too common. Parents may be unable to afford the giving of even the simplest gifts. Unemployment and constantly increasing living costs wreak havoc with family budgets. It can be a struggle just to feed and educate their youngsters.
Since the rescue mission was launched in 1980, it has been in the forefront of the battle against addictive behaviors, poverty, hunger, and homelessness. Each year, Providence Ministries of Dalton hosts a Christmas Day Toy Give Away for children 12 and under. In 2014, the volunteers distributed more than 5500 gifts to 1500 youngsters from in and around the area.
In order to receive gifts, children must be physically present, along with a parent or guardian. This is a celebration which has long been well-received by the community. Those who know of a child in need of a Christmas gift can get more details at the Providence Ministries website. The gift distribution is the highlight of the event for children, but all participants appreciate the turkey dinner, laughter, and music.
