Bee Cave, TX, 3/26/2024 — Bristol Family Eyecare has announced that they will be hosting a watch party to provide the local community with a safe and fun space to view the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. The event, which will be held from 1pm to 3pm, coincides with the visibility of the once-in-a-generation total eclipse. The event will take place at their Bee Cave office at14058 Bee Cave Pkwy Building D Suite A, Austin, TX 78738. Attendees who undergo eye exams between March 8 and April 8 will receive free eclipse viewing glasses to protect their eyes during the celestial event to ensure optimal vision and safety.

“It’s very exciting to be able to witness something that won’t be coming back for another few decades,” said the practice’s namesake optometrist, Dr. Dan Bristol. “This is a unique and rare opportunity to bring the community together and experience something much greater than all of us. Promoting safety at this event is crucial, because in the excitement it’s easy to forget that your vision is at stake when watching something so magnificent like the sun being fully blocked!”

The total solar eclipse, making headlines nationwide, will cross over Mexico, the United States, and Canada, and is the result of the moon passing between the sun and the earth to completely block the sun’s face. The sky will be darkened like it is at dawn or dusk in the middle of the afternoon. The path the eclipse follows is known as the path of totality, where the moon will be above the viewer’s position. The total eclipse will be seen in the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and parts of Tennessee and Michigan, while other states will see a partial solar eclipse.

Unlike the more common partial eclipses, the next full solar eclipse in the United States is not until 2044. During the celestial event, observers will be able to see the sun’s corona, which will appear as a white glow around the moon-eclipsed sun. The corona is usually hidden by the sun's bright surface and seen only with special instruments.

“We’ve scheduled the viewing party to be at the same time as it passes through Texas based on astronomical calculations,” continued Dr. Bristol. “This is a once in a lifetime chance to witness something so beautiful and scientifically fascinating. We want to emphasize the safety aspect, which is why we’re raising awareness during eye exams so that patients can continually care for their vision, whether they are watching the eclipse with us or not. Something as rare and wonderful as this deserved to be shared with the community!”

Bristol Family Eyecare will also be providing light refreshments at the viewing party. The practice is open and currently taking appointments for new and existing patients.
