January 20, 2016 - PRESSADVANTAGE -

The East Brunswick Jewish Center in East Brunswick, New Jersey, is partnering with the Temple Emanu-El and the Chavurat Kol Haneshama to present a night of Jewish songs and offer a tribute to Jules C. Frankel on January 23. This will be an opportunity to enjoy a Kumsitz of Jewish songs to celebrate Shabbat Sirah. People are invited to attend the event on Saturday January 23rd at 7:45pm at 511 Ryders Lane in East Brunswick.

Jay Lopatin, Treasurer of the East Brunswick Jewish Center says: "The Kumsitz will be led by Rabbi Leora Frankel and guest artist Rabbi Noam Katz. Benny Koonyevsky will be on percussion, Dave Schlossberg on keyboard, David Goldfarb on clarinet, and Joseph Zilberman on violin. There will also be a performance by Makhelat Hamerkaz, the Jewish Choir of Central New Jersey with choir conductors Cantor Anna West Ott and Hazzan Sheldon Levin. It is set to be a fantastic event and we invite everyone to come along and join in the celebrations."

The annual gathering is one that celebrates the parsha, which is read earlier on the day on Shabbat morning. It was started in the 1990s by Jules C. Frankel. The program will feature a sing along and a unique PowerPoint presentation. It will also be accompanied by musical instruments, stories and explanations, and lots of ruach and fond memories.

"We want to continue Jules' tradition and honor him with this event," explains Neil Kosher, President of East Brunswick Jewis Center.

The East Brunswick Jewish Center regularly organizes community events. This month alone, they have various events such as the Sisterhood event Ballroom and the Kita Vav Havdalah Dinner & Service. They also have frequent classes, including Genesis Science and Hebrew Classes, and the building is also used for members to engage in athletic activities such as soccer and basketball.

The Shabbat Sirah celebration, however, is set to be their biggest so far this year, particularly since it is organized with the cooperation of other organizations. A lot of interest has already been expressed by members of the Jewish community.
