Seattle Cosmetic Surgeon Announces the 2024 WISE Scholarship for Washington Women Pursuing STEM Education

Seattle, Washington—Alexander Sobel, DO, FAACS, of Bellevue, is thrilled to announce that applications for the 2024 WISE (Women in STEM Excel) Scholarship opened Tuesday, October 1, 2024. Now in its seventh year, the scholarship continues to empower and support Washingtonian women pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

The WISE Scholarship offers a $3,500 cash award to one deserving female student each year to alleviate the financial burdens associated with higher education. The funds can be used for tuition and various educational expenses, including textbooks, supplies, technology, on-campus dining, housing, and transportation. Dr. Sobel has always been an advocate for women’s education and established this scholarship to help address the underrepresentation of women in STEM industries and ease some of the financial pressures.

“In a time when the cost of higher education continues to rise, it’s more important than ever to support women who aspire to make significant contributions in STEM fields,” says triple board-certified cosmetic surgeon Dr. Alex Sobel. “Financial obstacles should not stand in the way of talented women who have the potential to make groundbreaking contributions to STEM. The demand for skilled professionals in STEM fields is higher than ever, yet women remain underrepresented. Our goal with the WISE Scholarship is to foster an environment where women feel supported and motivated to pursue and excel in STEM careers and to encourage more women to contribute to these critical areas.”

The WISE Scholarship is open to female residents of Washington State who are pursuing education in a STEM-related field at an institution of higher learning. Eligible STEM subjects include, but are not limited to, chemistry, computer and information technology science, engineering, healthcare and medical sciences, biological sciences, mathematical sciences, physics, astronomy, social sciences, and STEM education and learning research. Each applicant is required to submit one letter of recommendation with valid contact information, complete the application form, and provide original essay answers.

The application period opened Tuesday, October 1, 2024, and applications will be accepted until Friday, December 13, 2024. The Scholarship Selection Committee will review all submissions from Monday, December 16, 2024, to Friday, December 27, 2024, and select the winner based on merit and the successful completion of all application requirements. The scholarship recipient will be announced and notified on Monday, January 20, 2025.
