London, UK, JAN 16, 2016 – Today's car interiors have leather steering wheels, door panels and other details like a leather covered dashboard. In order to educate consumers about the care of leather, Colourlock (www.colourlock.com) has just published a new blog post entitled 'Leather Car Dashboards.'
The article discusses how 'interior panels present a challenge to repair as they have large smooth surfaces with different bends and shapes that can make repairs not only difficult, but visible if not done properly'.
The article states that ‘car dashboards are most often found in a matt finish. If the surface is gloss, it will be reflected in the windshield causing issues with the drivers visibility. At Colourlock, they use a top coat to achieve the different degrees of matt required.’
“Dashboards are subject to extreme heat sometimes so the adhesive attaching them to the plastic mould must be particularly strong in these areas,” stated a Colourlock spokesperson. “Sometimes the leather is also preshrunk so that it cannot longer shrink later once it is on the dashboard.”
The article further discusses how 'sometimes the adhesive under the leather cover detaches from the moulding creating bubbles under the leather. In very rare cases one can apply the glue again and re-stick it by putting strong pressure on it and with the help of a heat gun. In most cases, however, this won’t work. Likewise, attempts to put adhesive with a syringe under the surface again are unlikely to succeed.'
Colourlock UK and Ireland provides trusted professional leather cleaning services for most leather items, especially furniture and automobile fittings. The company uses proprietary cleaning solutions that are gentle to leather but tough on stains.
