WASHINGTON, D.C. - Washington Eye Doctors has announced the launch of a new charitable initiative aimed at supporting local families in need: a donation drive benefitting the Trinidad Mini-Pantry, located in the Trinidad neighborhood of Washington, D.C. This grassroots effort is focused on collecting non-perishable food, hygiene products, and other essential items for one of the area’s most accessible and community-supported micro-pantries.

“We see firsthand how challenging it can be for some of our neighbors to access basic needs,” said Dr. Michael Rosenblatt, O.D., a longtime practitioner with Washington Eye Doctors. “Community organizations like the Trinidad Mini-Pantry play an important role in helping fill those gaps. We’re proud to support their work and help ensure that families in the area can access daily essentials.”

The donation effort is open to all community members, whether patients or passersby. Washington Eye Doctors will accept drop-offs at each location, inviting patients, staff, and the public to contribute items like canned goods, shelf-stable snacks, menstrual hygiene products, and travel-sized toiletries. No matter how small, every donation helps a neighbor face hard times.

Washington Eye Doctors is encouraging participation throughout the spring and is actively working with staff and patients to generate awareness. The idea for the drive originated from conversations among the team about how the practice could continue to build deeper ties with the D.C. community while providing meaningful, tangible support to neighbors facing hardship.

The Trinidad Mini-Pantry has become a trusted resource for many residents in the area. Located in a high-traffic corridor of the Trinidad neighborhood, it provides a judgment-free, accessible option for those who need support. It is entirely dependent on donations from the public and local organizations. Washington Eye Doctors’ effort aims to help keep the pantry stocked during a time of year when donation rates typically dip.

“Our patients are incredibly generous, and our staff has always gone above and beyond when it comes to giving back,” said Dr. Rosenblatt. “We hope this drive inspires others in our network to lend a hand. It doesn’t take much — just a few extra items picked up at the store can go a long way.”

The practice is collecting donations in-office during normal business hours. Items most requested by micro-pantries include canned proteins (like tuna or chicken), granola bars, pasta, rice, peanut butter, baby wipes, soap, and menstrual care products. Signage and collection bins have been placed in each office to make participation easy and straightforward.

Washington Eye Doctors’ leadership team hopes this will be the first of several initiatives to support nearby neighborhoods, especially those experiencing food insecurity or housing instability. As a longtime care provider for D.C., Arlington, and Chevy Chase, the practice is committed to helping improve not just the vision of its patients but the well-being of the communities it serves.

Washington Eye Doctors is currently accepting donations for the Trinidad Mini-Pantry during regular business hours at all practice locations. Patients and community members who would like to contribute are encouraged to visit https://www.washingtoneyedoctors.com/ to find their nearest office.
