Energy Efficiency In Homes Still Low: Polystyrene Foam Supplier In Perth Stresses The Need For Insulation

February 17, 2016 - PRESSADVANTAGE -

A polystyrene foam business in Jandakot, WA, Australia, has noticed that Western Australian homes still overlook the ability of insulation to lower the cost of heating and cooling the home.

This is worrying, particularly since a recent report highlighted just how poor the energy efficiency of the average Western Australian home is. The company is therefore engaging in concerted efforts to insulate more homes across the state.

Justin Sinnott from Future Foams says: "We're so surprised to see that people continue not to insulate their properties efficiently, often not even thinking about it. Even in new home builds, it is often not included in the architecture or building plan. This is really worrying, as we should by now be at a point where insulated homes are the norm. We are the only state in Australia, even the world, where we use double brick housing. Double brick housing is so energy inefficient, We insulate our roof space but if you insulate your house slab, walls, doors, double glaze the windows, your house effectively becomes like an esky. You could run your heating or cooling system for a few hours in the morning until the desired temperature is achieved and then switch it off to save energy."

Future Foams believes that one of the reasons why people don't insulate is because they are worried about the upfront expense. It appears that they have not considered the possible return on investment achieved by improving energy efficiency.

At the same time, many Australians are currently engaging in renovation and they have been shown to know a great deal about the different construction approaches and methods that exist, while still not giving insulation the attention it deserves.

"When people renovate their homes, they simply don't think of insulation," adds Justin Sinnott. "They consider getting e-glass, an insulating type of window, and special bricks, which are often very expensive, but insulation gets neglected. We have many high quality rigid insulation boards that are highly affordable and can be installed in a variety of ways and we really hope that people will start to consider them."

The company warns that not insulating a property has effects that go above and beyond cost savings. While having a properly insulated home does mean that less money is spent on energy bills, the most important things is that it helps to save the planet as a whole. It is this commitment to protecting the environment that has made Future Foams one of the top polystyrene foam suppliers in the Perth area, and it is hoped that people will start to consider the importance of insulating their homes.
