Scott County Habitat Home Construction Put On Hold

February 16, 2016

February 16, 2016 - PRESSADVANTAGE -

Scott County Habitat for Humanity, an organization based in Georgetown, KY, has announced with regret that they have had to stop construction on the home for Freddie and Tiffany. This was due to lack of funding. While the roof for the home is already in place, the inside is still incomplete. It does not yet have any insulation, drywall or HVAC, for instance. More details about the project can be found on http://www.scottcountyhabitat.org/.

Adding to the problem was the fact that the ReStore donation truck was totaled from being hit head on and another van that was used by Scott County Habitat had blown an engine. As a result, the organization lost the two vehicles that they used to pick up furniture and other donations to sell in their ReStore. Donations and sales are down causing Scott County Habitat to halt construction of the home for a deserving partner family. A number of fund raisers have been held to try and supplement the lost income. These events included Trivia Night and Pancake Supper.

"Since the crash, we have struggled to continue to pick up donations for our ReStore and this has affected our building of homes," says Amy H. Preston, Executive Director at Scott County Habitat for Humanity. "We have had to stop working at our construction site for lack of funding."

The Habitat for Humanity has also launched a GoFundMe page so that people can make donations directly. "Freddie and Tiffany are a very worthy and deserving family and raising funds for the construction of their home is vital to their future well-being," Amy H. Preston said.

The organization has also raised awareness of the GoFundMe page through their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Scott-County-Habitat-For-Humanity-ReStore-194652197267062/ and they ask anyone to share the post in order to expand its reach.

The family in question is a father and daughter. Freddie suffered two heart attacks and a stroke, making his life difficult. Their limited financial circumstances results in their living in sub-standard housing. Through a Habitat for Humanity home, they will be able to become homeowners for the first time.

"This is a great partner family!" adds Amy H. Preston. "They are working right along side us on the construction site every step of the way. This home means everything to them."

The GoFundMe page can be accessed through https://www.gofundme.com/scott-co-habitat.
