New Million Dollar Trainer Jonathon Rogers Earns His Place in NCHA Hall of Fame

Cutting Horse Training Online (CHTO) is proud to announce trainer Jonathan Rogers passed the million-dollar-mark at the 2016 Ike Derby & Classic in West Monroe, Louisiana, leading to Rogers’ induction into the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Hall of Fame.

Rogers marked a 219 on Miss Aristolcrat to place equal third in the Derby Open. He won $14,321.95 for his efforts which pushed his total earnings over a million dollars.

“I was very excited [to pass the million-dollar mark] it has been a goal of mine since I started,” said Rogers. “When I first moved out west, my plan was to get an education and go back home, it wasn’t in my plan to be here, but when I got out here I realized I could compete.”

Rogers, from Rockdale, Texas, found his passion for cutting more than twenty years ago when he came across a horse in a pasture for sale that turned out to be a cutting horse. Shortly after he started working with David Stewart.

“When I went to work for him I saw what cutting was really about and it was remarkable and I thought, I want to do that,” said Rogers. “He gave me a big drive to learn.”

Rogers has many titles to his name such as the 2006 NCHA Ltd Futurity Champion, 2012 NCHA Derby Reserve Champion, 2012 NCHA Futurity Finalist and 2015 NCHA Futurity Finalist. He has also been known for training horses such as Spoonful of Cat, Mates Mister Sunette and CR Be Smart. Rogers says he is just getting warmed up, and now plans to set new goals.

“I’ve had quite a few good years in training,” said Rogers. “My next goal on my bucket list is to try and win $200,000 in one year; I’ve been close a few times. I also want to be able to help guys that one day might look up to me. I like to help people. I’ve got some good people working for me and I want to teach them everything I know and give them the opportunity that I got.”

Rogers will be formally inducted into the NCHA Rider's Hall of Fame at the association's annual convention on June 24-26th.

“There’s so many guys I look up to in this business that have won millions and millions and to be a part of that family is really, really good,” said Rogers. “I’m still satisfied to what I have done in my career and its been really rewarding.”
